Working with Your Mind Helps to Change Your Perspective
What obstacles towards inner calmness are you facing? We can view the disruptions as challenges to work with. This framework allows you to gain inner strength, flexibility, and confidence. What are the steps in doing this?
• Notice the feeling, thinking and somatic states that generate the discomfort.
• Create the intention to create an antidote to the disturbance i.e. patience and compassion, for the situation at hand and for those involved. This facilitates your ability to develop some wisdom and perspective.
• Allow an image, a sound or an object to produce a calm safe space for you. To practice using this space in your daily life, bring this into your focus of attention throughout your day. This can become a way to gain single-pointed attention and sharpen concentration.
• Repetition solidifies its positive use. Notice the sense of stability and calmness within that this space creates.
• Picture others, i.e. family, friends, acquaintances in front of you and try to view them as having a pure compassionate heart. This intention allows you to create an image of connection to them.
• You can bring that discomfort once again to your attention and then notice the perspective that you now have.
